Self-Care 101

Say it with me, self-care is a necessity, not a luxury!!

Self-care is what you do to preserve your own health. It can include a host of dynamic acts that improve your mental health, physical health, and overall well-being. I like to talk about self-care as an act that engages all of your senses.

One of my favorite self-care routines involves laying down on my comfortable bed (touch), in a dimly lit room (sight), listening to calming music (sound), while a peppermint or chamomile based candle burns (scent), and a glass of lemon or cucumber water to sip on (taste). Often, that’s enough for me-but sometimes I’ll reflect on my triumphs in the last month (whether be big or small) as an added boost to this incredibly fulfilling sensory moment. At some point, I blow the candle out and then drift quietly off to sleep. We all need our things to cope with tough times, and this is one of mine.

Insightful moment: What is your go to self-care activity?
